KDE Plasma on Pop OS
KDE Plasma on Pop OS
Pop OS is one of the best ubuntu based distro available on the market. what makes the Pop os special is its hardware support, system reliability, and smooth performance. It Comes with gnome as it defaults desktop environment which is a pretty simple and focused desktop environment. However, I prefer KDE over Gnome.
Though By default there are no other desktop enironments available in the Pop Os, There is a way to change the desktop environment manually. The instructions are clearly mentioned on the system 76 website. I installed the KDE desktop environment alongside gnome. Here is the end outlook of my setup

How to Install KDE Desktop Environment in Pop Os?
Before Installing update your current system and take a snapshot of the entire system using Time Shift. During Installation, if anything goes wrong you can revert it back using Time Shift
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get full-upgrade
sudo apt install kde-standard
During the installation process, a pop-up comes asking to select the display manager. I personally like the gdm3 over sddm so I left it to gdm3, select a display manager of your personal choice you can change it in the future even or you can even customize the display manager later. Continue Installing the KDE plasma.
After Installing is done reboot the system. At the time of login select the KDE desktop environment.
Now you will find to see a vanilla KDE plasma desktop environment
